Hello all

Um wow, so it's been a long while since either of us have posted on this blog. Probably because all of November we both did NaNo last month - and successfully, I might add! We were so glad for that.

Lately, she and I have been writing separately - trying to find our "voices" in writing. I've been working on a story about a girl who is deaf. Her father left her family when she was fifteen, and that caused her to stop writing novels (which is her passion). The goal in this story is to make her find her writing again, to learn to look past what her dad did and get back to her writing. I think it's probably the most well-written story that I've ever written.
I'm not saying that to brag in any way - it's just the story is coming together way better than I ever thought that it could. Sometimes I can just sit and write pages upon pages of it in my notebook, and I feel so good afterwards. I don't know that I've ever felt that good about any other story that I've written.

As for Kylie and me - our writing together is sort-of on the back burner for now. We may get back to it at some point because we have so many great plots that just need to be written - or rewritten from past books - but like I said, for now, it's just  not working. We're both super busy, and don't really have the time to write together.
Hopefully we'll be able to get back to that next summer when we both have a little bit of free time! I miss writing with my best friend.
But until then, I plan to find my voice as a writer and try to grow as one, as well.

Until next time!
Ciao ya'll!

We're Doing NaNoWriMo

S: So, it appears that we haven’t done a typecast for 200 days. That’s like... almost a year. Last time we did one, it was my birthday in April.
A: Um, holy canoli, it’s been a while then. I thought it was more recent than that. We should try to do them more often than that.
S: Yes, at least once a month or something like that. I’ve missed this. But there’s a reason we’re doing a typecast this November.
A: Of course there is. Isn’t there always a reason that we do a typecast? Although, it’s usually got something to do with us writing TOGETHER. This time...not so much.
S: Which is actually kind of weird, but at the same time, it makes sense. Ever heard of NaNoWriMo?
A: If you’re a writer, I’m sure that you have. If not, let us, I mean, me, explain. ;) November 1st starts NaNoWriMo. It’s National Novel Writing Month. And the goal is to write 50,000 words in 30 days. Seem impossible?
S: Uh, yeah. But it’s really not, judging by the fact that thousands of people participate each year. And this year, I’m among those thousands of people.
A: As well as me. I have tried to do it a couple of times, but have always found myself failing. Why? Um, because I was stupid enough to wait until the last minute to come up with a plot. This time, I was way more prepared. Plot, chapter summary, and even good, solid characters. That tends to help.
S: Yes, I did the same thing, but this year, I came up with a plot about a month ago and spent a while outlining. And aside from my brief meltdown this morning, I feel pretty confident.
A: I had my plot for a long time - since a dream I had this past summer - but I didn’t actually sit down and start working on it until the end of October. Then I worked like a crazy person trying to get my characters, plot and chapter summary into a document before the first.
S: That’s what I did, too - except I had no dream to be inspired off of. I just started from scratch and went with it.
A: Almost all my stories come from dreams. Come to think of it - most of all OUR stories come from dreams, too.
S: Good point! Speaking of our stories, we do have a quick announcement that has something to do with what we write together. I’m sure you can guess that it probably has something to do with Will and Elle.
A: Mostly likely because that’s what we’re working on at the time being. We finished the main part of the book with a word count of....
S: 106k! And after this, we just have a short epilogue to finish this book up.
A: But seeing as we have NaNoWriMo to work on, we might not be finished it until after December 1st, which is fine with me, since I have a whole heck of a lot to write between now and then.
S: Ditto that! But as far as I’m concerned, Will and Elle is mostly finished, which is cause enough to celebrate.
A: So if you guys wanna congratulate us, we would be happy with that! :) As for now, it’s time for me to go back and work on my NaNo novel.
S: And as for me, I need to go hang out with my sister so that my family doesn’t think I’ve gone anti-social. :P
A: Good luck to everyone who is doing NaNoWriMo this month!
S: And even if you’re not doing NaNo, good luck with your respective writing endeavors! We’ll see you next time!
A: See ya!
S: Or as Ashley has said in the past, ciao, y’all!
A: Oh yes! I’d forgotten since it’d been a while. Ciao, bellas!

We're Almost There

On October 17th, we hit 90k. And we have been bad bloggers and forgot to notify you until now. Oops. :P

Anyway, here's a little update. We have 93k as of right now, and we're anticipating when we finally hit 100k. This is exciting stuff, people. Writing 100,000 words is something I never thought I'd do.

Ash and I both think it would be amazing to get proof copies of Will and Elle for Christmas. At the rate we're going, I definitely think it's possible, and I'm really, really excited!

In case you're wondering what's going on in the story, Will and Elle are about to leave on a trip cross-country. They'll be accompanying Will's older brother, Logan, and Elle's older sister Sharon, who are now married. Having older siblings that are married to each other just makes being best friends all the more convenient, don't you think?

Also, did I mention that Will is head over heels in love?

Yeah, this is going to be interesting. Very interesting.

I'm feeling the hype of getting closer to the finish line. We're almost done! Thanks for being our cheerleaders. ;) We will be sure to tell you as SOON as we are finished. Wish us luck!

P.S. - it's that time again: National Novel Writing Month. Anyone else doing NaNo?

Long time, No post

Wow, it has been quite some time since either of us posted on this blog. Probably because we're both busy and haven't been writing. At all.
Well, we did a little bit of writing today, and a little bit yesterday.

Kylie and I started a new story the other day - Confessions of a Teenage Receptionist. The name pretty much says it all.
She's a receptionist and she's a teenager. It's written in first person, present tense, and we're trying our best to make it witty and funny.

Because neither of us are able to do much writing together, we've been doing writing apart. I've started a couple different stories on my own, and I love writing by myself. Sure, I love writing with my best friend, but I also like writing alone - finding my own voice, and figuring out what I can write about without someone else's help.
Although I do ask for Kylie's advice every now and then. She's my moral support while writing alone, and I'm her's. I guess that's what best friends are for.

We'll try to post a little more about Confessions of a Teenage Receptionist, and maybe a blurb from the book sometime this week.

Beautiful People - Hayden and Tori

I'm not sure if we've ever mentioned Hayden and Tori before, but the first time we ever wrote their story was a couple of summers ago. We weren't really mature in our writing at that point and we didn't really have a true story line, or even great character profiles.
A couple of days ago, we decided that we wanted to bring back Hayden and Tori's story, and that we need to redo the plot and the characters.
We have decided to write this story a little differently - I'm not going to go into great detail, because maybe it could be a blog post later on, but she and I have each taken a character and are making them our own.
Kylie is working with Tori and I am working with Hayden.
So read about Tori and Hayden below.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tori:
by Kylie
What is their full name? Victoria Grace McGregor
Does his or her name have a special meaning? Victoria means 'conquer; victory', and Grace means... well, grace (either that or favor; blessing). So her name, as I interpret it, means "to conquer with grace." It's very ironic, considering certain... plot details.
Does your character have a methodical or disorganized personality? She's completely disorganized. As in, "cleaning? What's that?"
Does he or she think inside themselves more than they talk out loud to their friends? (more importantly, does he or she actually have friends?) It depends. Tori has thoughts that she prefers to keep private, but there are some times where she can't keep her mouth shut. She has a hard time not voicing her opinions, which can get interesting since she's very opinionated. She has several friends; Lena, Luke, and Hannalee being only a few of them. As for Hayden, though... well, he's not a friend. Yet.
Is there something he or she is afraid of? She's afraid of failing. More importantly, she's afraid of loss; whether it's losing someone she loves or important memories, or even just lost time.
Does he or she write, dream, dance, sing, or photograph? She has played piano for ten years, and it's one of her passions. On the side, she writes poetry and loves photography. She also took ballet in the past, though it isn't as important to her as piano.
What is his or her favorite book? (or genre of books) She likes anything from fantasy to romance, or even the classics, if they interest her.
Who is his or her favorite author and/or someone that inspires him or her? Overall, Jesus inspires her; the guy she reads about in the Gospels who loves her enough to die. He's her favorite Author, because he's writing her life story. ;)
Favorite flavor of ice cream? Chocolate chip cookie dough.
Favorite season of the year? Fall! She doesn't get fall in California though, and that's one of the things she misses most about Colorado, the place she recently relocated from.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hayden:
by Ashley

What is their full name? Hayden Mark Lasseter
Does his or her name have a special meaning? Um, on BabyNames.Com, it says that Hayden means Valley With Hay. Wow, 'tis amazing.
Does your character have a methodical or disorganized personality? Disorganized, definitely.
Does he or she think inside themselves more than they talk out loud to their friends? (more importantly, does he or she actually have friends?) He has a lot of friends who are jocks. He doesn't really have any true friends.
Is there something he or she is afraid of? He doesn't like to think so. But he's definitely afraid of things.
Does he or she write, dream, dance, sing, or photograph? None of the above.
What is his or her favorite book? (or genre of books) Um, do comic books count? ;)
Who is his or her favorite author and/or someone that inspires him or her? Any famous soccer player inspires him, because that's what he wants to be.
Favorite flavor of ice cream? Cookies and Creme.
Favorite season of the year? Fall and spring. Soccer seasons.

A Proof Copy... Almost

Ashley and I are planning to get a proof copy of Will and Elle when we're done with it. However, I was getting a little impatient. So, I printed out some of Will and Elle - the prologue to be exact, and I'm really loving the way it looks.

You may have seen this picture on our Facebook page already, but if not, here it is.

Please excuse the bad quality of the photos - I took them with my webcam. :P

Also, you get cool points if you can read anything this says.

Then again, you get cool points regardless, because you're our readers. Thanks for sticking with us for so long. ;)

P.S. - Will and Elle currently has about 75k. :)

70K

Milestone hit yet again. Will and Elle is plugging along pretty quickly.
70K didn't really take that long, but we haven't been writing as much since both of us started school this past week and aren't able to be on the computer as much.
Mom says she wants me to keep up with my writing, but I'm not supposed to be on the computer before I'm finished with my school for the day, so it's a little hard for me to wait until I'm finished before getting on!

Anyways, we hit 70K. And that's awesome.
Most of our other stories have ended around 70-80K.
This story, we're shooting for 100K, but seeing as we still have a lot of plot to go - so we might even get farther than that.

As our readers, you all will be the first to know.

It's Like NaNoWriMo All Over Again - 50 & 60k

Oh boy. Where do I begin?

As Ashley told you, we hit 40k two days ago. We also hit 50k that day. And yesterday we hit 60k.

I'm not sure exactly what happened, but I do know one thing: We are crazy. And our writing tends to end up the same way.

The grand total of words we wrote yesterday? 12,869.

I'm having flashbacks to the time I wrote about 25k in 4 or 5 days last NaNoWriMo. Also, it reminds me of the time Ashley and I wrote a novel in 51 days. We've been writing Will and Elle for a little over a month now, since July 14th. At the rate we're going, it'll probably be done soon.

Ashley and I still aren't sure exactly what made us write so much. All I can say is... thanks, Jesus. He helped out with a little inspiration, methinks. ;)

Overall, I think Ashley and I are both crazy. You probably can agree with us on that... right? :P

Also, this is unrelated to writing, but I wanted to let you know that Ashley put up a post on one of our other blogs, Beautiful in Christ. It really inspired and encouraged me. :) You can read it here.

A Quick Update

So I have a couple of things to write about today. :) I don't even really know where to start. It's kind-of hard to figure out WHAT to post about when there is so much.

First, Sky and I have made our blog a domain. Only problem is that I spelled the name wrong when I was typing it up, so I accidentally called it AshleySkyBooks. But oh well, at least it's on the blog and is a domain now. We'll figure out how to change it next year when we have to renew it. LOL

Secondly...we have officially hit another landmark in our writing. We hit 40K! Yahoo! This is usually about the halfway point in our writing process, but we're going to try to reach 100,000 words with this story because there's so much to say. We'll have to see what we can come up with. :)

Third...I don't know if you guys read our facebook page or not, but yesterday evening, Sky and I had a really great night of writing. We usually write a short part here and there, at least lately. We wrote, but we never really WROTE.
Last night, we wrote 6,888 words together. That took us up to a total word count of 45K. We're extremely happy with ourselves for that. We're hoping for something equally as amazing tonight! :)

Also, we have a few more things to write about within the next few days, so be sure to check back. Sky should be posting about some other exciting things we're working on, as well.

Finding Your Voice

This post is going to be a bit different from the usual Ashen Sky posts. It's something I've been thinking about recently, and I thought I'd share.

A couple of days ago, I was asked by someone in the authoring community if I'd "found my voice" yet. My first thought was that, "Of course I've found my voice! I'm using it to speak to you right now!" Thankfully, though, I figured out what she meant. Or at least I thought I did.

I told her that my voice is first person, present tense, or third person, past tense. After some further thought, though, I don't think that's the only thing that determines your writer's voice. To me, a writer's voice is what makes your work different from everyone else's. Everyone has a different voice - both when they talk, and when they write.  It comes out in not only the way they write - their grammar, dialogue, etc. - but also their characters and the specific story they choose to tell.

I'm still finding my voice, but my writer's voice is very valuable to me. It's what makes my work unique and set apart. I want to make my voice as strong as it can be.

As of right now, I think I'm in the "puberty" stage of being a writer. (Bear with me here.) My voice is constantly changing, as are my thoughts, my ideas, my opinions. I'm developing as an author, and as a person. I'm being fine-tuned as I'm molded more and more into the person God wants me to be. And overall, I want God's voice to flow through my writing, no matter what I write about or what kind of an author I end up becoming.

So, now I'm curious. I know a lot of writers read this blog, and I want to hear your thoughts on this. Have you found your voice yet?

We'll be sure to post ASAP about this stuff, just wanted to let you know that we ARE alive and well! Working on a lot of different things!

Will and Elle - 30,000

Will and Elle is still going strong, and today we hit 30k. :) At this point, Will and Elle are about to leave for college. Ashley and I are really proud of ourselves for writing a fair amount before hitting the major plot point. ;) LOL. Normally we end up writing a short beginning and then jumping right in to the story, but as for Will and Elle, we needed some time to develop their characters together before developing their characters apart. :)

Now Ash and I are gearing up for a weekend without writing. Ashley's going to spend the weekend at a friend's house, and I have a family reunion. We had a writing frenzy this afternoon, which was really good, and I'm glad we got some time to write together before we leave. :) Will and Elle is turning out to be one of my favorite books we've ever written, and I think that Ashley will agree! ;)

The other day, we added it up, and we've had about 48 total characters in our time of writing together - and that's not even counting all of them. Most of them are couples that we probably won't ever write about, but had good ideas behind them nonetheless. We have so many more novels planned, it's not even funny. Look out, writing world! :D

Next time we post, we'll probably have hit 40k. See you then! ;)

20K and a snippet of the book!

Wow. I have been so busy lately. I don't know if my life has ever been this busy in my entire life. I always said, "Man, I wish that I could be busy, and have stuff to do instead of being bored." Now I say, "Man, I wish that I could be bored, and not have anything to do!" I guess that grass isn't always greener on the other side, eh? Good lesson to learn.

Despite the fact that I'm busy with work, running around doing different things (voice lessons for me, and some instrument lessons for my sister), Kylie and I are still somehow finding the chance to write with each other. Not as much as usual, for sure. But we are trying to keep a good pace, and write as much as possible.

Speaking of writing - we've hit our 20K words in Will and Elle. The story is actually going better than either of us originally expected. We're still working on the first summer of the story and we weren't thinking that it would be any longer than 15K, so this is pretty amazing to us.

I'm gonna share a snippet of our story with you right now. I think you need to realize the relationship that Will and Elle have, as best friends.
Let me give you a few facts about these two:

  1. They're best friends and have been for almost 14 years. (They are 18).
  2. They're headed to different colleges in the fall.
  3. Will's brother, and Elle's sister are dating.

    “Hey Will, look, it’s you!” I point to the cage in front of us. We’ve been at the zoo for the last couple of hours - taking our graduation “trip”. The two of us decided to skip-out on the beach trip that the rest of our class was taking. Maybe it was because we didn’t prefer the fact that most of them went for things that weren’t completely, um, moral. Like drinking and such. And worse things, but good Christian girls don’t speak such things. Or even think them.
    Well, maybe we think them, but we don’t think them out loud. And we don’t ever think about doing them. Ever.
    “What do you mean it’s me?” Will looks at me skeptically.
    “Monkeys.” I point to them. “Maybe they’d accept you to be a part of their monkey habitat.”
    “Oh, very funny.” He looks across the path at the donkey. “And that’s you...”
    I glare at him. “You’ve gotta me kidding me.” I put a hand on my hip and strike a pose. “I am the cutest best friend you’ve ever had.”
    “Sadly you’re the only best friend I’ve ever had.” He puts an arm around my shoulder loosely.
    “And whose fault is that?” I pull away. “I wasn’t the one that came up to you and said, ‘hey,you wanna be friends?’. Cause I would’ve never done that.”

    “Hey! But you’re glad that I did, aren’t you?”
    “Occasionally.”
    “That’s kind of not fair.” He sighs.
    “I was kidding. Sort of.”
    “Sort of?”
    “You know I love you and stuff, Will.”
    “Yeah, well, the feeling’s mutual.”
    Saying ‘I love you and stuff’ is our way of letting each other know that we still do love each other. We just didn’t want to make it awkward, so we added ‘and stuff’ to the end. To this day I still do not know what ‘stuff’ means. I’d kind of be interested to find out someday.
    “Who wants to go to the giraffe exhibit?” Will asks.
    I nod enthusiastically and jump up and down like a little kid. “Me, me! Pick me!”
    He looks at me blandly and scans the area around us. “Anyone else?”
    “Just me, Will! Look at me! I want to go to the giraffes!”
    “Okay, okay. I’ll take you to the giraffes.”
    “Yay!”

Will and Elle

Right after we finished Much Love, Morgan, we started writing Will and Elle's story. Their book has been in the works for a couple of years now. We've had their characters sitting on the back burner for a while, but as we've gotten to know them better, they've become amazing characters.

We tried writing their story one time before, but nothing truly came out of it, so this time we tried a little harder on their plot and came up with a better one. :P

We have been writing this story since the 14th. Today we hit 16K. We knew that this story would go fast because we know our characters so well, but I really didn't realize it would go THIS fast. We haven't really had much trouble coming up with plot ideas as we are writing, which is really a new thing for us. Usually we get stuck and aren't sure what to write, but this story is an exception. We've been writing like crazy, as you can probably tell.

If you don't know much about Will and Elle, check out more about them HERE and HERE

Always,
~Ashley

In Which Much Love, Morgan is Finished

Well, I was going to post about how we reached 80,000 words on Much Love, Morgan.

Well, after a huge writing frenzy, I have an announcement to make.

Much Love, Morgan is... finished!

The past few days, we've been writing like crazy so that we could finish MLM and move on to another writing project, the story of Will & Elle. And our writing paid off. Much Love, Morgan was finished in 87 days and has a final word count of 83,127.

I'll end with the last words from our book. It's a blog entry by Morgan.

So today, and tomorrow, and every other day that the Lord gives me, I am going to thank him. Every day is just a miracle that the Lord gives us. It’s a day that we are supposed to live to it’s fullest.Go spend some time with your kids, or sisters, or brothers, or aunts, or uncles, or parents, or whoever is special to you.
Because you never know when it’s your last day. Or theirs.

“Be a best friend, tell the truth, overuse I love you, love Jesus, go to church, do your best, don’t outsmart your common sense. Never let your praying knees get lazy, and love like crazy.

That last part especially sounds like a pretty good idea to me.

Much Love,

Morgan

70K

Well readers, we've hit our 70K mark. And again, like Kylie said in the last post - it seems like we only write a blog post when we hit a special mark in our story.

Well, sorry about that - but lately we've been writing like crazy and it just tends to happen that way! There are so many others books waiting in the wings to be written, so we are writing our others quickly than anticipated. I guess it's a good motivation for us!

Much Love, Morgan keeps taking interesting turns that neither of us really thought would happen. We had a plot, but it wasn't completely detailed and we didn't know everything that would happen. That way, we could decide when we wanted something cool to happen, without having to fear about ruining the whole plot.

Crazy thing is, we're at 70K, and we still have a lot more plot left. We know that our goal is 80K for this story, so we're sure it's going to be longer than Becoming Bekah. We'll see just how long it gets. I'm sure as we edit this one, we'll make lots of changes to the beginning, as Much Love, Morgan is not as strong at the beginning as it has gotten more toward the middle and end of the story. We'll have to wait and see how far we get in it, and decide from there.

Becoming Bekah IS being edited at this time, though is somewhat slow in the process. We are trying to keep up our writing and our editing, which is not an easy task when both Kylie and I have busy schedules.

At any rate, we're doing our best and we should, hopefully, have a proof copy of Becoming Bekah in the next month. Um, I hope.

Oh! And don't forget to go to our facebook page and "like" us if you haven't already yet! Maybe write on our wall to let us know if you follow our blog so we don't look and your name and say "mmm..wonder who THIS is?" ;)

The Newest Template

So, here's the thing. Our old template was nice, but after a while, Ash and I both started hating it. So much so that we didn't like to visit our blog to read our own posts, or even write new entries.

I think that our template was partly to blame for us not coming by and posting as much as we did. So, I redesigned it.

And it looks pretty awesome if I do say so myself. Although, Ash hasn't seen the completed thing yet, so she could always disagree with me...

Writing is going well. We haven't written in a couple days due to hectic schedules. But, I really love our story and want to keep writing it.

Much Love, Morgan doesn't have as much of a theme as Becoming Bekah did. BB is about forgiveness and learning to love. And MLM? Well... I don't really know. I'll have to be thinking and praying about that.

Also, I'm thinking about doing some editing. However, thinking is different than doing. Right?

Right.

So I'm going to go DO some editing. Right now. Right here. Before I get distracted agai--Hey look, a squirrel! ;)

Editing and Such

So today as Kylie and I were having a nice chat on the phone, we talked about writing. Big shocker, eh? We were talking about our finished novel, Becoming Bekah.
We decided that we should probably start the editing process for it as it is finished and it would be nice to have the editing, well, done.
There's only one little teensy - um, big - problem. Neither of us LIKE to edit stories. Sure, we love to write them...but neither of us are big..editors. It's not that we actually MIND reading over our stories and seeing what's wrong with them - it's the fact that we actually have to find mistakes as we read. I have trouble with that.
I can be reading through the book, and get lost in the story, and forget that I was supposed to be editing. Um, I'm sorry? ;)
But as we were talking...we decided that we would really like to each have a proof-copy of our book. Meaning that we'd have an actual book - with an actual cover we created - with our story inside. How cool would that be?
Really cool.
So we realized that we need to edit our story. So over the next couple of weeks - or months, depending on how much depth we go into - Kylie and I are going to be going over our book and editing it.
This should be a bundle of fun. :P
But it will be amazing when she and I can actually hold our story in our hands. I can't wait!
Anyways readers, we are still going to be writing Much Love, Morgan, as well, but I'm not sure what will get more priority at this point.
Like Kylie said in the last post, we have the series that never ends - that just goes on and on my friends - and we have so much writing to do. So editing may just be done on the side, while we continue to write the stories as well.
As of right now, we haven't really decided.
But as I said above...writing to us is better than editing, so it may just win out.

Getting Closer [60K]

Greetings, earthlings!

It is unintentional that we should update our blog only when we reach a certain wordcount goal, but that seems to be the way it happens. As it is, Ash and I have been brainstorming lately for a new series of books.

Simply put, we have the Series That Never Ends.

"These are the books that never end... it just goes on and on my friend! Some people started writing it, not knowing what it was, and they'll continue writing it forever just because they are the books that never end..."

I'll stop there.

Anyway, the current series we're writing now should be enough books to satisfy us, right? Wrong.

As if it wasn't enough, we must write about our characters' children, too.

Are we crazy? Yes. We are.

Our series started with Bekah and Dereck's story. Then we wrote about Leighla, Bekah's best friend. Then, are going to write about Hawk, who is another character that shows up in Leighla's books. And then, we decided to write about Emily, who's one of Cale's friends. The list goes on.

Ashley and I have been coming up with ideas like crazy though, and my brain is always running with ideas. I was at the mall tonight and had a notebook with me. The notes I scribbled down look something like this...

You Belong w/ me
Ryan has to have the last name O'Connor, since he's the only one who can carry on the bloodline.
Shae can play violin.
Shae and Landon?

Welcome to my brain. ;)

So, what was the point of this post, again? Oh, right. We hit 60k in Much Love, Morgan. (YAY!!!)

Pretty soon we'll finish this book, and we'll move on to Love Forever, Leighla. Then we'll write Ever Emily. And then we'll write Taylor's story. And then Ryan's. And Shae's. And Cooper's. And the list goes on...

And this is just one series. We still have Will and Elle's whole story to write, and who knows what else we'll come up with?

If we have any genius ideas to take over the world, you'll be the first to know.

Conquering the world one word at a time,

50 K

Can you say wow? Oh my word. Kylie and I had a tiny bit of a writing frenzy the last couple of days and we finally hit our 50K mark. That's one of the most exciting parts of the story for me, and I'm not even sure why.

We still have a lot of plot, though. This story should be the same length, or a tiny bit longer than Becoming Bekah. Much Love, Morgan is taking on such a bigger plot (even though it wasn't planned at the beginning), and seriously I can't believe that it's going to be long.

When Kylie and I started our writing journey for Much Love, Morgan, we were a little skeptical about writing it. Because we didn't have a plot completely written out. We knew what we wanted to happen in the story, but we weren't sure where we wanted to go with the whole thing. We weren't sure of what all was going to happen - the main theme, even.
So starting to write a story with just a rough plot is really, really hard. I should know. I do it all the time. And usually those stories fail.

But when Kylie and I are writing together, we always have a good time. We can figure out funny things to happen and we do it together. That's what so fun about writing with my best friend. We can take a story, some characters and our writing, and we can make it into something bigger and better than either of us ever anticipated. It's amazing.

I, myself, actually started a story about two girls named Ashlynn (me) and Skylar (Kylie). It really isn't ABOUT us, 'cause I made a ton of fictional characters, but it's neat to write about a friendship as awesome as Kylie's and mine.

Okay, I'm done now. :) Just wanted to tell you all that we have officially hit 50,000 words. Wow. Just saying that makes me wanna go and dance around the room.
You'd be glad that you can't see that. 'Cause I can't dance.
At all.
Kylie would second me on that one ;)

So, in honor of our book Much Love, Morgan, I shall sign off like this:
Much Love,
Ashley

40K... Er, 45k

Well, Ashley and I keep meaning to post, but we've been really busy. Ashley spent a week at the beach, and I have been editing two novels at once. Nothing like editing novels to keep you on your toes. And to keep you away from blogging.

Never fear, though! We've been returning to our crazy writing frenzies, as usual. :P And with that, we've gotten fresh inspiration for this story, Much Love, Morgan, and we've also hit 40k.

Well, make that 45k. ;)

This story is going fairly well, though not as fast or easy as Becoming Bekah. It's kind of one of the harder stories to write in the series, as we didn't have a lot previously planned for it. However, we brainstormed one day a couple weeks ago and came up with some new ideas, which makes me really excited. And here we are, stillllll writing. Whoever said writing is easy was wrong. :P

We still have a lot of plot to go before we hit 80k, so wish us luck!

And I'll have to poke Ashley into posting soon... hear that, Ash? ;)

Meet Will & Elle [Again]

Since I haven't posted in a while, Ashley made me asked me to post. Ashley and I recently revisited some of our favorite characters, Will and Elle. If you've been reading our blog for a while, you already have met them in our very first typecast. But, if you haven't heard of them before, today is your lucky day!

Readers, prepare to meet Elysse Marie Moser & William Dray Farris.

I love them. 'Nuff said.

Home from VACA

Whoa baby. It's been quite some time since we've posted. I was hoping that maybe Kylie would post while I was gone, but since neither of us were doing much writing (since I didn't have internet access from our condo in FL), she didn't really have any need to post much of anything!

Like I said, no internet access from our condo in FL, so we didn't do any writing while I was away. Needless to say, I missed all our characters! I couldn't even write my OWN stories because most of them are on Google Docs and I didn't have the access to them. So...I started a new one on a word document on my computer. Because, as you all know, I am a writer and I can't NOT write for that long!

Anyways, I just got home a couple of hours ago and I wrote a nice, long, refreshing part in the story! It made me feel so happy! I feel like I'm back into the grind of things because I actually got to write! :D

~Ashley

BTW, we are now at 22,000 words!

20K...er 21K

I was, um, supposed to post when Kylie and I hit 20K, but before I knew it, we'd hit 21K. So instead of posting our 20K milestone, I'm posting about 21K.

This story is definitely going slower than our others. Not even sure why. Probably because we're both super busy with different things.

BUT! we did get to one of the main plot twists in the story. It was our first big one, so it was kind-of nice to actually get it written out and see how it played out in words, instead of thinking about it for such a long time, wondering what would happen. :) It was better than we imagined, but sad. (You'll have to wait for later! :P)

It's Kylie turn to take a part in the story, so hopefully she can do that soon, before I leave for FL tomorrow. I really wanna write another part before I leave.

~Ashley

ALSO, kudos to Kylie for making our amazing new template. I couldn't have done it myself, so I am very amazed by what she made. :D

Of Apple Pie and New Designs

So, it's been a while since I wrote on this blog.

*waves* HI!! Remember me? I'm Sky!

Now that we've got that awkward moment out of the way, I have to introduce you to a piece of apple pie.

Once upon a time, Ashley came to visit me. We went over to a friend's house - but really, she's more like an aunt. We got there, and she had apple pie. She said that when we tasted the apple pie, we would go, "Oh my gosh!"

Our reaction?

"Oh my gosh!"

So when you have apple pie, think of us.

In other news, we're slowly progressing in Much Love, Morgan. It's kind of slow-going though, and I don't know why. Oh wait, I do. It's because we're both so busy. Hopefully things will calm down a little soon, so we can write. I miss writing!

Our current wordcount is 15,459 words. We've written 500 words since our last post! Not as fast as we've written some books, but still pretty good. I... guess.

I still think it would be amazing if we could get published. Granted, our books need a lot of work before then, but I think it would be amazing. No, it would be amazeeng! So, I'm going to keep praying that that can happen, and you pray too, okay? I just want it to happen in God's timing. And you all are AWESOME. No, actually you are AMAZEENG. Thanks for hanging in there with us through our random ramblings and moments where we're high on sugar and tend to ramble ourselves to pieces. Like me. We love you all! :D

Also, a new design is coming. Here's a sneak peak...

It'll include a new photo header with pictures of us and our awesome feet. Also, it'll look a lot different than our current design. So stay tuned for that. I can't wait to show it to you all! :)

Have a happy Saturday, blog readers!

15K!!!!!

Wow, lots of excitement, huh? I guess that's because I AM excited. Kylie and I hadn't been writing as much lately and finally we hit our 15K mark today.

She and I had been writing pretty long parts the last couple of days to catch up on the word count and we did really well with that. It's kinda funny, actually. Our sections in the story have been so long that even I'm surprised.

At this exact moment I am talking on the phone with Miss Kylie and she made sure for me to tell you all "hi!", so I better do it or I shall face her wrath. And that is one wrath I shall not want to face.
Just kidding.

So of course I read the whole post over again to Kylie to make sure that it sounds okay and we are laughing like teenagers.
Which isn't a bad thing.
Since that is what we are.
Right?
Right?
Right.

Anyways...15K and onto 20K. And then 30K. And then...80K. :)

long time, no post

Sheesh, it's been forever since either Kylie or I posted on this blog. Sorry, life has been hectic and crazy here lately and I'm not even sure why.

My month of May is super-duper crazy with trips to GA and FL in the beginning and ends of the month for different homeschool conventions (to work in The Old SchoolHouse Magazine booth - come see me if you're at CHAP, GHEA or FPEA, for sure!)

Kylie and I have not been writing much lately because of the busyness in our lives but like I've said, we've started Much Love, Morgan - the book that comes after Becoming Bekah. I thought I would post the prologue to our story so that you have some idea of the writing style of book 2!

Enjoy!

Oh and consider now that Leighla is married and has been for quite some time when this book starts. Just in case you were confused by the way things are going. :)

~~~~~~~~~
Leighla sat on the couch watching a movie with Channing. She was starting to feel fat and ugly and was already ready to have the baby growing inside her. She was trying not to get discouraged, considering the fact that she still had six months left to go in her pregnancy. Oh boy, this should be interesting for poor Channing.
She almost felt like crying about it. Of course, she cried about everything now that she was pregnant.
Especially this stupid, sad movie that they were watching. She had been crying since the beginning and she needed to stop. She was now blubbering and acting like a total idiot.
“Are you okay, Leighla?” Channing placed a hand on her arm and gave her a smile.
The smile cheered her up a little bit. “I’m fine, Channing. Just a bit emotional.”
“So I see.”
“This movie...is just....so....sad.” She said between breaths.
“Yeah....”
“It’s sad, Channing Kinglsey!”
“I know, Leighla Kingsley! I’m watching it too, ya know.”
“I know that.” She sighed. “We need to watch an action movie next.”
“You don’t like action movies. And you’d probably cry at that too.”
“Oh, shush.”
Leighla was seriously blessed to have Channing as a husband. She didn’t know what she would do without him. He was her sanity since she got pregnant, someone who stood by her through everything. She was thankful to have him in her life.
She put her fingers in between his. “I love you, Channing. Thanks for being my best friend.”
Channing smiled and kissed her on the lips. “It was my pleasure.”
Becoming Bekah
I'm hoping that Miss Kylie won't get angry with me for posting this, but since it's Saturday and I can't take it anymore, I am posting it anyway. 'Cause she'll get over it, I'm sure....
Right, Ky?
Right.
Okay.
I am posting the video that Kylie - our wonderful, amazing Kylie - made for our story Becoming Bekah. If you've ever seen a book trailer before, you know that it definitely takes some time, but in the end, it looks cool. I actually tried to make one...but I couldn't get myself into it enough to actually finish it.
I didn't even mention that to Kylie and a day later, she told me that she had made one. I guess that was our best friend telepathy sinking in, wouldn't you say? Yep. Me too.
So with further ado, here's the video!
Enjoy! And let us know what you think too!
10K already!
There's a time in Kylie and my writing when we know that we are pretty much "in-tune" with our story and characters.
I think that time is now.
She and I started Much Love Morgan, on April 16th.
It is April 20th - 4 days later - and we have already hit our first milestone.
The 10K mark.
I did that this morning, actually, my writing a super long part.
(which I tend to do when our stories get interesting and I wanna know what's going to happen next).
Much Love, Morgan is actually coming along really quickly and if we keep writing in this way, we'll be done with it in only a couple of weeks.
Becoming Bekah came along really fast too, at first, so I'm expecting it to go quickly at the beginning and then slow down at some point.
But I'm hoping that doesn't happen, even if it seems inevitable.
We started the story: 4/16/11
We hit 10K: 4/20/11
Red Oranges and Ridiculous Characters
Last night, we finished Becoming Bekah, and I'm STILL excited! :D Today Ashley and I talked on the phone about our recent accomplishment, and about our next story, called Much Love, Morgan. It picks up right after BB ends, so we went ahead and started it today.
Right now, we are writing, and we have three and a half thousand words. Currently, we're writing about red roses, except I typed "red oranges" instead. I don't know about you, but that has to be the weirdest typo I've ever done. O.o
When Ash & I were on the phone, we brainstormed some more of our plot and came up with a couple new ideas. One of them involves a new character, Emily. We decided that Cale & Emily would like each other and become friends. This was Cale & Emily's reaction:
Cale: NO! THERE IS NO WAY I'M BEING FRIENDS WITH HER!
Emily: HOW COULD YOU MAKE ME BE FRIENDS WITH HIM?!
So... yeah. This is what it's like when our characters rebel.
Hehe. Welcome to Ashen Sky Life.
A milestone!
Ash:We have some exciting news to tell you all, that’s why we’re posting for the second time together. But first!!!! I have something else to say! Or sing.
Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you! Happy birthday dear KYLIE!!!!!!! Happy birthday to you. :)
Sky: Tehe. Thanks! I’m blushing. ;)
A: No problem! So I think that we have some news to share with our ever faithful readers, don’t you think, Ky?
S: Just a little bit. This is a momentous occasion in the world of Ashen Sky.
A: Yes, of course it is. Well, tonight, Kylie and I have been writing like crazy-people in our story - Becoming Bekah - which you all know a lot about, thanks to us! :)
S: Yeah. You wouldn’t know anything about Bekah, Dereck, Leighla, or Cale, if not for us. ANYWAY... we ended up, well... finishing the book.
A: Yes! You read that right! We finished BECOMING BEKAH! And I’m writing this LOUDLY! The exclamation points mean that I’m excited!!!!!!!
S: I’M MORE EXCITED! BECAUSE THIS IS THE BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT EVER! AND THE STORY ENDED BETTER THAN I EVER KNEW IT COULD!!!!!
A: That’s because we never know EXACTLY how our stories are going to end, until they actually do. And they always surprise us, in a good way!
S: Exactly! So, when exactly did we start this story, again? *goes to look*
A: I’m not sure, in January sometime.
S: January 8th, 2011.
A: See? I knew it was in January. I have smarticle particles, remember?
S: Yep, I knew this! ;) Now I must go eat Chipotle for my awesome birthday dinner. Then we’ll watch Tangled.
A: Oooh...sounds like fun! I wish that I was there with you, but instead, I’m here...yeah. Here. Okay, so now that Kylie’s leaving, I guess I should wrap this up, seeing as it could never be near as fun without her. So anyway, ciao ya’ll!
